Silver Repoussé and Chased Votive Mask of Nandi, India

Fine and rare silver votive or offering mask with repoussé (hammered) and chased decoration overall.

A traditional representation of the sacred bull, Nandi, with decorated straps framing its face, caps on the tips of the horns and an ornament at the center of the forehead.

18th – 19th century.

Showing heavy oxidation and other residue in relief areas of reverse. Minor splits or separations along folds and solder lines (pictured).
