Lot #011

Beaded Bodice (Alual), Dinka People, South Sudan

Dinka beaded bodice (alual) constructed of strands of hand-strung, colored glass beads joined at the shoulders and terminating on central wire-framed panels at front and back.

Panels are wrapped in a natural fiber cord and frame a large open lattice. Some of the horizontal strands are also beaded.

Once common among the Dinka, these garments seem to have disappeared as a result of the civil war in South Sudan.
